Many innocent victims like me will be well aware of the gender biased laws that are blatantly misused in India and many educated like me who fight it out in courts, blogs etc while others slog it out in jails.
The point is why a progressive country like India has such stupid laws. The answer is simple – India still has 80% poor people which the government is worried about (as it affects their vote bank) and spends hard earned Indian’s tax money (only 3% pay taxes) to uplift these (where this money disappears is anyone’s guess as the country still is as poor as it was decades ago). The irony of the whole thing is that these tax payer’s money is being used to fund court cases against them (yes, the government believes that the women in india can’t earn their living so the court cases are Govt. of India vs the poor sufferer).
The laws – 498a, Domestic Violence (google them if you don’t know yet). The Domestic Violence (DV) is designed such that all male members are under the ambit and under a hammer if they don’t listen to the Daughter in-law of the house (yes no one would listen if the mother-in-law filed this case as all women are excluded from its ambit). the question is – does the govt. think that women in India are hapless dumbwits or is India still in stone age. I work like many others and my workplace has maybe 20% women, they earn as much as i do, are assertive as much as i am, then what is the aim of this law???? oh yeah i forgot it is for the remaining 80% of women who are subjected to domestic violence and obviously how can a man suffer domestic violence in India. ah well you take a walk to any village and ask what is domestic violence - no one knows, no one cares..
the next one is even funnier – 498a, this law assumes that everyone in the family hates the daughter-in-law (DIL) and are greedy and need to be put behind bars. that is why the DIL can name whomsoever she wants from babies to 90 year olds and have the govt. of India persecute them while she can sit in her boyfriend’s lap and sip gin and tonic. yes that is precisely the kind of women who misuse this law.
ok..so u understand the mentality of lawmakers in India, this is a huge HUGE business in India..wait for my next blog
ok so what happens once this laws are invoked – divorce what the hell, who will live with a tormentor. so, then who benefits from it — hmm lawyers, police, social workers (aha now NGO’s are also involved to take a cut of the pie).
now comes the real meat of the story- NGO role in modern India. Obviously, I am not blaming all NGO’s but some whose sole role is to destroy families. Now someone will say why did i put specific names, my answer is why is this NGO sending letters based on malicious and false, fictitious events to the officials demanding action based on fictitious events. Did they ever think why the girl is creating so much ruckus that cruelty has been done on her in not letting her having an extra-marital affair with her student, half her age? oh, i forgot this is what the law is made for. it is cruel for a husband to object to her wife having an extra-marital affair, leaving a ill child to go and celebrate valentine’s day with her boyfriend while the husband is supposed to take care of the sick child. On the surface, the Guild of Services in New Delhi is an NGO supporting good causes, but I am sure there are some unscrupulous people misusing its name for theier personal (say monetary) betterment.
so what’s the story- hmm this girl, indirectly related to me, doesn’t like family life i.e. taking care of kids, teaching them, overseeing what the 4 maids do to the house. what she is interested in – partying, spending time with college kids half her age. oh i forgot she is a lecturer in a college. so she calls the boys behind the back of her husband while he’s gone to work. now her child is old enough to tell his dad, so off he is packed to a creche where he cries in frustration at not being able to live a peaceful life. and so her affairs continue, till finally she is caught, her brother and relatives realize the truth, get rid of her job and pack her to parents place. now it becomes more interesting, she goes to lawyers asking what to do and is introduced to the anti-human 498a and DV laws. so now a story is sprung, poor woman, facing domestic violence at home, harassed by in-laws and unable to meet her poor children (as if she cared for them in the first place). proofs - none, script for bollywood film – full masala. Now who will listen to her allegations – aha she finds a pimp who has a soft corner for “such” women. A few stints in bed later, this guy is all set to proclaim the cause of a “mistreated helpless woman”
